April 2001 Newsletter-Servimont
We would like to share with you the latest experiences and adventures we had during the last months. We included interesting news from our guests as well as updated trips for summer 2001.
In this issue you will find:
Staff:
Francisco Figueroa: He is currently our Service Coordinator. He guides some of our trips in South America and Mexico. He is a lifetime outdoor enthusiast and nature lover. Above all he enjoys to see climbers return happy and in "one piece" from the mountain. He likes to share a good conversation about rock and ice climbing . If you don't find him in the office, he is likely mountain biking, climbing or rockclimbing in the backyard. By the way, if you need advise on how to prepare a delicious drink or meal, just ask him, he is a professional cheff.
Roberto Flores reached his 100 ascent to Pico de Orizaba. Congratulations.
Roberto has many wonderful stories about climbing this mountain with all types of weather and glacier conditions. From fresh powder and sunny days to stormy below 15 c and solid icy penitentes.
Our Guests.
We appreciate all the enthusiasm and stories that our guests have shared with us. Many people have experienced the challenge of attempting to climb a different "Pico de Orizaba". The mountain is unpredictable and we only can offer the utmost respect for this magnificent present from nature.
This past season we have many people from around the world. Just after getting married, the honeymooners Nick Gully and Tammy Loewy visited this mountain (a great way to start!).
Some people ski down the mountain or at least they tried. Among others, during this season, Andrea and Chris from Idaho, skied down Citlalteptl.
Chris and Nathan rode in unicycle on the summit of Orizaba. They were able to watch a wonderful sunrise right from the summit.
Yuri Contreras has shared with us interesting stories about his 8000m climbs. He is leaving the 26th of March to face another climbing challenge in the Himalayas. Good luck!
Junko Tabei (first woman to climb Mt. Everest), Yoko Mihara,Tamae Watanabe and Eiko Tabe visited us. We want to thank them for the wonderful japanese food shared with us as well as their visit to this mountain. It was a cold and challenging windy climb through deep snow. Junko photo on Citlalteptl.
